Delta-10 Disclosed

Delta-10, a lesser known member of the cannabinoid family, has recently been gaining attention and popularity due to claims about its relaxing effects. However, delta-10 is a form of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and is strictly prohibited for Service members. Read on to learn more about delta-10, products to watch out for and safe alternatives to reduce stress levels.

What is Delta-10?

Delta-10 THC is typically derived from the hemp plant. You may see it advertised as “legal weed” or a “cutting edge” product to relax and bring stress levels down. Compared to its cousins, delta-9 and delta-8, delta-10 is known to give a less intense high (think head buzz instead of a full body high). However, it is a very new product and little to no research has been done on the harms of delta-10 or the long-term effects of using it. Despite it being legal in a number of locations, consuming any amount of delta-10 THC is prohibited for Service members and could result in serious consequences, including loss of career.

Delta-10 Products to Avoid

Exercise caution and be wary of the following products where delta-10 may be found:

  • Edibles (including gummies, chocolate and other foods)
  • Drinks (sodas, seltzers etc.)
  • Capsules, tablets or pills
  • Flowers
  • Vapes
  • Concentrates (strong THC substance with a honey, butter or wax-like texture)
  • Oil cartridges
  • Tinctures (small bottles with cannabis infused in alcohol, glycerin, or oil)

Tips to Relax Without Delta-10

While delta-10 is often marketed for its relaxation benefits, DoD policies strictly prohibit the use of all products made or derived from hemp, no matter the THC concentration (claimed or actual) or legal status; this includes delta-10. Check out these tips to de-stress and prioritize your mental well-being without THC. Rather than using THC products to relax, make an appointment with your health care provider to discuss feelings of stress or other health concerns, talk with your chaplain or take advantage of military support services that offer counseling.

The next time you’re feeling stressed or feel like hopping on the delta-10 bandwagon, remind yourself of what you could lose when you consume THC.
